Biographical Sketch
Kevin F. Gilbert is the newly elected President of the 8,000 member Mississippi Association of Educators (MAE). As the new president, he wants MAE to build upon its strong foundation as being the premiere advocate for quality teaching and quality public schools in Mississippi. Gilbert believes that education is the noblest profession in our society, and those involved have accepted a special calling primarily through their love for children. He understands that having great public schools is not a privilege; it is a basic right for every child.

An 11-year educator, Gilbert has worked as a social studies teacher, a coach, and an administrator with the Clinton Public School District (Sumner Hill Jr. High School and Clinton High School); Rankin County School District (Northwest Rankin High School); and the Hinds County School District (Carver Middle School). Other educational experience includes substitute bus driving while working in Rankin County, and substitute teaching with the Jackson Public School District. He has been a member of MAE since he began teaching and has worked with several of MAE’s local associations: the Clinton Association of Educators, the Rankin County Association of Educators, and the Hinds County Association of Educators.

His association experience includes working on the MAE Legislative (2002-05), Budget (2003-05), and Membership (2005-07) committees. He also served as chair of the Legislative (2004-05) and Membership (2005-07) committees. Additionally, he served as the chair of the MAE Capitol Region Friends for Children and Public Education committee in 2003. In 2005, he was elected MAE vice president, and served in this role until assuming the presidency. Gilbert is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi (BA’94; MS’96) and Mississippi College (Ed.S.’04). He is married to the former Andrea Nicole Hoskins of Natchez, and they have two children: Kristopher (5) and Kameron (18 mos.). He is a member of the Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Madison, MS.
